Free family fun as Trentham Gardens celebrates Chinese New Year
Full line up announced for traditional activities and parade on Saturday 10 February
Popular leisure attraction Trentham Gardens will be celebrating Chinese New Year with a range of activities this weekend. On Saturday 10 February visitors can enjoy food stalls, a dragon parade, stilt walkers, dances, and free craft classes to celebrate the Year of the Dragon; a symbol of power, nobility, honour, luck, and success.
Some of the food offerings will include salt and pepper fries, spring rolls, stir-fry noodles, bao buns, rice bowls and katsu curry.
Visitors will be able to see the dragon parade at 11am and 2pm, which will make its way through the Trentham Shopping Village and presents as a fantastic photo opportunity. The craft activities for children include learning how make their own lucky dragon smoke jars, which will be hosted by local charity Support Staffordshire.
Kerrie Pope, Head of Events at Trentham, said: “We’re so excited to be hosting our second consecutive Chinese New Year celebration. It will be a day filled with cultural traditions and family fun, with activities for everyone to enjoy and get the whole family out and about.”
Activities take place from 11am-4pm. Here is the full timetable of the day:
11:00 – Parade
12:00 – Giant Panda & China Doll walkabout
13:00 – Chinese Dragon on stilts walkabout
14:00 – Parade
15:00 – Traditional Chinese Lion Dance walkabout & Dragon Flag Dance
15:30 – All acts walkabout
The Chinese New Year Celebration takes place at Trentham Shopping Village and is free of charge.
Zodiac Trail in Trentham Gardens
Launching on Saturday 10 February, Trentham are hosting a Chinese New Year Zodiac Trail leading you through the Gardens. On the trail you can explore the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, enjoy photo opportunities, and discover facts about each animal along the way.
The Zodiac Trail is included with Garden admission and offers a delightful blend of cultural learning and entertainment, making it the perfect family outing to celebrate the richness of Chinese culture amidst the beauty of Trentham Gardens this February half-term. The trail is running from Saturday 10 until Sunday 25 February.
