Trentham Estate Fishery Rules 2025

We ask all anglers to maintain a sporting and respectful attitude towards fellow anglers, Trentham staff, and the public. The following rules are in place for everyone’s benefit, and your cooperation in upholding them is appreciated.

  1. All fishermen need to make security aware when they arrive on site, what peg they are on and when they leave. This should be done via text message or by calling the security mobile number. 07966 247 393. Please also provide if and where you are parked on site. This is in case there are any emergencies.
  2. Fishing and parking are at the angler’s own risk.
  3. Alcohol is strictly prohibited.
  4. Only barbless hooks are allowed.
  5. All nut type baits are not permitted.
  6. Keep nets are prohibited.
  7. Bloodworm and joker are not allowed.
  8. Braided fishing line is prohibited, except on marker rods.
  9. Permits must be carried at all times when on the Trentham Estate.
  10. Dogs must always be always kept on a short lead and under control. Please clean up after them and dispose of waste properly. Dogs should not disturb adjacent marginal vegetation or wildlife. No walking of dogs is permitted outside of normal hours.
  11. A maximum of three rods are allowed per angler.
  12. Rods must be attended at all times. Anglers must not leave rods unattended with lines cast or baited hooks.
  13. Anglers must hold the correct, current Environment Agency license(s). If using three rods, the 3 rod license is required. Bailiffs will conduct checks.
  14. Any angler leaving their swim for over one hour must remove all belongings. Swims cannot be reserved.
  15. Unhooking mats must always be used. Fish must only be photographed while kneeling over the unhooking mat—never stand while holding fish.
  16. Fish may only be sacked for a maximum of 10 minutes while preparing photographic equipment. Fish should not be kept out of water for longer than absolutely necessary and must not be returned to a keep net or sack.
  17. Pike anglers must use a minimum of 12 lb breaking strain line and a 20 lb minimum trace wire.
  18. Specimen carp anglers must use at least 8 lb breaking strain line. If using a lead over 3 oz, a shock leader is required.
  19. Any angler who allows a non-member to fish will have their permit revoked.
  20. Visitors are not allowed. Security reserves the right to inspect bivvies after hours.
  21. Bait boats, all types of boats (including inflatables), swimming, and wading above thigh depth are prohibited.
  22. No litter should be left behind. Anglers are responsible for cleaning up their swim and disposing of rubbish at the nearest bin.
  23. Back leads must be used in all areas where boats are operating.
  24. Child fishing members must be accompanied by an adult season ticket holder at all times.
  25. Anglers must not fish within 10 yards of another angler unless mutually agreed upon.
  26. Cars must be parked in designated car parks, either in the retail area or at the southern entrance.
  27. Trentham Fishery will be closed over the Festive periods of December 24th (16:00) and 26th (09:00)
  28. Keep bank-side noise to a minimum.
  29. Wildlife and wildfowl must not be disturbed in any way. Anglers should not cut or remove trees, shrubs, or vegetation. If any wildlife is spotted or in distress, please contact a member of staff to report this.
  30. For security and the protection of fish stock, members agree to allow bags and vehicles to be checked and searched by bailiffs or security at any time.
  31. The use of ‘Leadcore’ is banned.
  32. Please be mindful when casting close towards any of the islands within the lake, be considerate of the wildlife and be aware of the overhanging trees and submerged snags.
  33. Check the weather (Met Office for Trentham) before coming to site.
  34. Trentham can’t be held responsible for any equipment that is left unattended.
  35. On Friday morning’s there is NO movement between 4 am to 8 am.

Failure to adhere to these rules may result in a warning, removal and/or exclusion from the site. Trentham reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone acting inappropriately.
