The Tulip Tree and The Iron Bridge

The Tulip tree Lidiodendron tulipfera is thought to be one of the first trees planted in the Eastern Pleasure Gardens.

It features in many historical photographs of the River Trent running alongside the Gardens and is often pictured alongside the Iron Bridge. It is likely that it was brought across from the United States in the late 1600’s - it is now very rare in the wild! It is called a tulip tree because the shape of its leaves look like a tulip flower.
